About Biotechnology Industry Research Assistance Council
The Biotechnology Industry Research Assistance Council (BIRAC) is a not-for-profit Public Sector Enterprise, set up by the Department of Biotechnology (DBT), Ministry of Science & Technology, Government of India. Established in 2012, BIRAC's mandate is to strategically address and bridge critical gaps in the Indian biotechnology innovation ecosystem. It acts as an interface agency to enhance and support the biotech industry's strategic research and innovation capabilities, focusing on nationally relevant product development. BIRAC plays a pivotal role in nurturing and promoting the biotech industry in India, providing strategic funding and support to enterprises in various stages of development, from early-stage startups to established companies. It supports a wide spectrum of areas including healthcare, agriculture, industrial biotechnology, and environmental biotechnology.
