The Indian Institute of Millets Research (IIMR) , an autonomous institution under the Indian Council of Agricultural Research (ICAR), is India's premier research hub dedicated to millets. Located in Hyderabad, Telangana, IIMR plays a pivotal role in advancing millet science, ensuring food security, and promoting sustainable agriculture across India. Its core mandate involves developing improved varieties, sustainable production technologies, and value-added products for sorghum and other millets. Established initially as the All India Coordinated Sorghum Improvement Project (AICSIP) in 1957, it was later upgraded to the Directorate of Sorghum Research (DSR) in 1987. In 2014, recognizing the broader importance of diverse millets, it was renamed the Indian Institute of Millets Research.
