About Visakhapatnam Urban Development Authority
The Visakhapatnam Urban Development Authority (VUDA) was a pivotal state government body in India, established under the Andhra Pradesh Urban Areas (Development) Act, 1975. Its primary mandate was the planned development, regulation, and growth of the Visakhapatnam urban area. For decades, VUDA played a crucial role in shaping the landscape of one of Andhra Pradesh's most important cities, focusing on comprehensive master planning, infrastructure development, and providing public amenities. In 2018, VUDA was succeeded by the Visakhapatnam Metropolitan Region Development Authority (VMRDA) . VMRDA expanded the geographical jurisdiction and enhanced the scope of urban development activities, continuing and building upon the strong foundation laid by VUDA. As of 2026, all recruitment and development activities are managed by VMRDA, which serves as the principal planning and development authority for the entire Visakhapatnam Metropolitan Region.
