SBI conducts a Clerical Exam every year for the recruitment of candidates in the Clerical Cadre. The candidates can be designated as the cashier, depositor, junior associate, etc. Candidates have to go through 2 stages of examination to finally select as Clerk in the bank – Preliminary Examination and Main Examination. The selected candidates will be on probation for a minimum period of 6 months. Before the probation period comes to an end, the performance of the newly recruited employees will be evaluated. There is a reservation for SC/ ST/ OBC/ PWD and Ex-Servicemen candidates. Pre-Examination Training is also provided to SC/ ST/ Ex-Servicemen/ Religious Minority Community candidates.

State Bank of India (SBI) releases recruitment notifications every year for various posts lying vacant in its branches all over India. Those who are planning to appear in this exam must be aware of its eligibility criteria, selection procedure, exam pattern, syllabus, etc.

SBI Clerk Exam Pattern 2021

The selection process will consist of an online test (Preliminary exam & Main exam) and a test of specified opted local language.

A. SBI Clerk Prelims Exam

Preliminary Examination consists of 100 Objective Type questions of 100 marks. The test consists of 3 sections and is of 1-hour duration with separate timings for each section. The 3 sections are – English Language, Numerical Ability, and Reasoning Ability. Candidates qualified in this exam will be shortlisted for Main Examination.

Each test will have separate timing as mentioned above. There will be negative marks for wrong answers in the Objective tests. 1/4th of the mark assigned for the question will be deducted for each wrong answer. No minimum qualifying marks are prescribed for individual tests OR for the aggregate scores. Section-wise marks will not be maintained.

An adequate number of candidates in each category as decided by the Bank (approximately 10 times the numbers of vacancies. subject to availability) will be shortlisted for the Main Exam from the list of all candidates arranged in descending order of aggregate marks scored.

B. SBI Clerk Main Exam

Main Examination consists of 190 Objective type questions of 200 marks. The objective test consists of 4 sections and the duration will be of 3 hours with separate timings for each section. The 4 sections are – General/ Financial Awareness, General English, Quantitative Aptitude, Reasoning Ability & Computer Aptitude.

Each test will have separate timing as mentioned above. The questions in objective tests, except for the test of General English, will be bilingual i.e., English & Hindi. There will be negative marks for wrong answers in the Objective tests. 1/4th of the mark assigned for the question will be deducted for each wrong answer.

C. Test of Specified Opted Local Language

After qualifying for the Mains Exam, the test for knowledge of specified opted local language will be conducted. Candidates who produce 10th or 12th standard mark sheet/ certificate evidencing having studied the specified opted local language will not be required to undergo the language test. The provisional selection will be made on the basis of marks obtained in the Main Exam and Local Language Test Result.

To apply for the exam, candidates must have a Graduation Degree in any discipline from a recognized university or any equivalent qualification recognized as such by the Central Government.
