SBI PO Exam Pattern and Syllabus

SBI PO Notification – State Bank of India has released the notification to recruit candidates for the post of Probationary Officer. Candidates can apply for 2056 posts. Eligible candidates are required to register online for the recruitment process which will be held in three phases viz. Phase-I, Phase-II, and Phase-III. The last date for online registration including editing/ modification of application by candidates was 25.10.2021.

SBI conducts PO Exam every year for the recruitment of Probationary officers. Candidates have to go through 3 stages to finally be selected as PO in the bank – Preliminary Exam, Main Exam, and Group Exercise & Interview. The selected candidates will be designated as “Probationary Officers” and will be on probation for 2 years. After the probation period, officers are placed in Junior Management Grade Scale -I (JMGS–I). There is a reservation for SC/ ST/ OBC/ PwD and Ex-Servicemen candidates. Pre-Examination Training is also provided to SC/ ST/ Religious Minority Community candidates.

SBI PO Exam Pattern 2021

The SBI PO Selection Procedure involves three phases namely, Prelims, Main, and Interview. Each round holds equal importance and hence clearing each round is important to enter into the next subsequent round until final selection. Prelims will be of qualifying nature, however, Mains & Interview marks will be considered while releasing the merit list.

A. Preliminary Examination

Preliminary Examination consists of 100 Objective type questions of 100 marks. The test will have 3 sections and the duration will be of 1 hour with separate timings for each section.

The SBI PO Prelims Exam is the first basic round to test the general aptitude of the candidates. The three sections in the prelims are the English Language, Quantitative Aptitude, and Reasoning Ability. 0.25 marks will be deducted for every question attempted wrong by a candidate. No deduction will be there in marks if a question is left unattempted or blank by a candidate. Candidates qualified in this exam will be shortlisted for Main Examination.

B. Main Examination

Main Examination consists of 155 Objective type questions of 200 marks and a Descriptive Test of 50 marks. The objective test consists of 4 sections and the duration will be of 3 hours with separate timings for each section. The Descriptive Test will be of 30 minutes duration with 2 questions of Letter Writing & Essay for 50 marks.

The four sections in the main examination are Reasoning & Computer Aptitude, Data Analysis & Interpretation, General/ Economy/ Banking Awareness, and English Language. There will be a penalty for wrong answers marked in Objective Tests. 0.25 marks will be deducted for every question attempted wrong by a candidate.

C. Group Exercises (GE) and Interview

After qualifying Main Exam, candidates will go through the Group Exercises and Interview. Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the 3rd Phase may comprise of (i) Interview only (50 marks) OR (ii) Interview (30 marks) & Group Exercises (20 marks). Candidates will have to score minimum qualifying marks in Phase-III to be considered for final selection. The minimum qualifying marks will be decided by the Bank.

Final Selection

The candidates will have to qualify both in Phase-II and Phase-III separately. The marks obtained in Main Examination (Phase-II), both in the Objective Test and the Descriptive Test, will be added to the marks obtained in Phase-III for preparing the final merit list. The marks obtained in the Preliminary Examination (Phase-I) will not be added for preparing the final merit list for selection. Marks secured by the candidates in Phase-II (out of 250 marks) are converted to out of 75 marks and Phase-III scores of candidates (out of 50 marks) are converted to out of 25 marks. The final merit list is arrived at after aggregating (out of 100) converted marks of Phase-II and Phase-III. Selection will be made from the top merit-ranked candidates in each category.

SBI PO Eligibility 2021

To apply for SBI PO Exam, candidates must have a graduation degree in any discipline from a recognized university or any equivalent qualification recognized as such by the Central Government. Candidates possessing the qualification of Chartered Accountant or Cost Accountant may also apply.
