UPSC Civil Services Exam 2022 Notification – The Union Public Service Commission has released the notification of the Civil Services (Preliminary) Examination on 02-02-2022. Candidates can apply for Civil Services (Preliminary) Exam before 22-02-2022. The Civil Services Examination is a nationwide competitive examination conducted by the Commission for recruitment to various Civil Services of the Government of India.

Civil Services (Preliminary) Exam 2022 will be held on 05th June 2022, while Civil Services (Main) Exam 2022 will be conducted on 16th September 2022. The examination is conducted for the recruitment to various Civil Services of the Government of India such as the Indian Foreign Service (IFS), Indian Administrative Service (IAS), Indian Police Service (IPS), Indian Revenue Service (IRS), Indian Defence Accounts Service (IDAS) among others. This exam is a gateway for candidates looking forward to joining Civil Services.

UPSC Civil Services Exam Pattern

UPSC Civil Services Exam is conducted in two stages – Preliminary (objective-type paper) and Mains (descriptive paper and interview). All candidates who wish to appear for the UPSC Civil Services exam need to ensure that they meet the eligibility criteria mentioned above. Civil Services Examination shall be conducted according to the following plan:-

I.  Preliminary Examination

The Examination shall comprise of two compulsory Papers of 200 marks each. Both the question papers will be of the objective type (multiple choice questions) and each will be of two hours duration. The General Studies Paper-II of the Civil Services (Preliminary) Examination will be a qualifying paper with minimum qualifying marks fixed at 33%. The question papers will be set both in Hindi and English.

II. Main Examination

The Civil Services (Main) Examination will consist of a Written Examination and an Interview/ Personality Test. Candidates who obtain such minimum qualifying marks in the written part of the Civil Services (Main) Examination as may be fixed by the Commission at their discretion, shall be summoned by them for an Interview/ Personality Test. The number of candidates to be summoned for the Interview/ Personality Test will be about twice the number of vacancies to be filled. The Interview/ Personality Test will carry 275 marks (with no minimum qualifying marks).

The technique of the Interview/ Personality Test is not that of a strict cross-examination but of a natural, though directed and purposive conversation which is intended to reveal the mental qualities of the candidate. The Interview/ Personality Test is not intended to be a test either of the specialized or general knowledge of the candidates which has been already tested through their written papers. Candidates are expected to have taken an intelligent interest not only in their special subjects of academic study but also in the events which are happening around them both within and outside their own State or Country as well as in modern currents of thought and in new discoveries which should arouse the curiosity of well-educated youth.

Marks thus obtained by the candidates in the Civil Services (Main) Examination (Written part as well as Interview/ Personality Test) would determine their final ranking. Candidates will be allotted to the various Services keeping in view their ranks in the examination and the preferences expressed by them for the various Services and posts.

UPSC Civil Services Eligibility

A candidate must hold a degree of any of the Universities incorporated by an Act of the central or State Legislature in India or other educational institutions established by an Act of Parliament or declared to be deemed as a University under Section 3 of the University Grants Commission Act, 1956 or possess an equivalent qualification.

It is mandatory for the candidate to appear in both the Papers of Civil Services (Prelim) Examination for the purpose of evaluation. Therefore a candidate will be disqualified in case he/she does not appear in both the papers of the Civil Services (Prelim) Examination. Paper-II of the Civil Services (Preliminary) Examination will be a qualifying paper with minimum qualifying marks fixed at 33%. The questions will be of multiple-choice, objective type.

Main Examination
Paper-IEssay: Candidates may be required to write essays on multiple topics. They will be expected to keep close to the subject of the essay to arrange their ideas in an orderly fashion and to write concisely. Credit will be given for effective and exact expression.
