UPSC IFS Exam 2022 Pattern and Syllabus

UPSC IFS Examination 2022 Notification Out – Every year, the Union Public Service Commission (UPSC) organized various competitive exams for the recruitment of personnel in All India Services and Central Services. Indian Forest Service (IFS) is one of the All India Services. Officers are selected through UPSC IFS Exam and then trained for about 2 years by the Central Government at Indira Gandhi National Forest Academy.

The commission has released the Official Indian Forest Service (Preliminary) Examination, 2022 through CS (P) Examination. Interested and eligible candidates can apply on or before 22-02-2022. The preliminary exam will be held on 05th June 2022.

UPSC conducts Indian Forest Service Exam (IFS) Exam for admission to the Indian Forest Service. The recruitment is conducted through two stages – Civil Services (Preliminary) Examination and IFS (Main Examination). Candidates applying for IFS Exam are required to qualify for the Civil Services (Preliminary) Examination for going to the stage of the Indian Forest Service (Main) Examination. There is a reservation for SC/ ST/ OBC/ PWBD candidates.

UPSC IFS Exam Pattern

The UPSC IFS Exam Pattern is given below:

I. Civil Services (Preliminary) Exam

The Preliminary Examination will consist of 2 papers of objective type questions and carry a maximum of 400 marks. The duration of 2 hours will be given to each paper – Paper I and Paper II for answering the questions. Candidates qualified in this exam will be shortlisted for Main Exam.

II. IFS (Main) Exam

The Main Examination will consist of Written Examination and Interview. The written exam will consist of 6 papers of conventional essay type – Paper I, II, III, IV, V, and VI. Paper I and Paper II will be of General English and General Knowledge respectively of 300 marks each. Paper III to Paper VI will be of any two subjects to be selected from the list of optional subjects. Each subject will have two papers and each paper will be of 200 marks.

Candidates qualified in the Written Part of the Main Exam will be called for an interview with the objective to assess the personal suitability of the candidate for the service. The interview will carry 300 marks (with no minimum qualifying marks). Marks thus obtained by the candidates in the Main Examination (written part as well as interview) would determine their final ranking

UPSC IFS Eligibility

Candidates must have a Bachelor’s degree with at least one of the subjects namely Animal Husbandry & Veterinary Science, Botany, Chemistry, Geology, Mathematics, Physics, Statistics, and Zoology OR a Bachelor’s Degree in Agriculture, Forestry or in Engineering or equivalent qualification from any recognized university.
