About Bank of India

Bank of India is an Indian Government Undertaking organization with over 5000 branches in India and 60 international branches. Its origin dates back to 1906 when it was established by a group of renowned businessmen from Mumbai with an authorized capital of Rs.10 million further divided into 100,000 shares of Rs.100 each.

Shri G. Padmanabhan is the current Non-executive Chairman of the bank. It is one of the top 5 banks in India that got nationalized in 1969. Its earliest board of directors were – Sir Cowasjee Jehangir, Sir Sassoon David, Ratanji Tata, Sir Frederick Leigh Croft, Khetsety Khiasey, Lalubhai Samaldas, Gordhandas Khattau, Ramnarain Hurnundrai, Noordin Ebrahim, and Jenarrayen Hindoomull Dani.

Post World War II, the bank set up its first overseas branch in London in 1946. Subsequently, the branches were also opened in Paris, Kenya, Singapore, Aden, Osaka, Uganda, Tanganyika, Hong Kong, Tokyo, Nigeria, and New York. National Bank of Southern Yemen incorporated the Bank of India’s branch in Yemen together with those of all the other banks in the country, which is now renowned as the National Bank of Yemen. The bank opened representative offices in Shenzhen and Vietnam. The bank fully owns a subsidiary in Auckland (New Zealand) and Uganda. With its key products i.e. Commercial banking, Retail banking, Mortgages, Private banking, Credit cards, etc. earned a net income of Rs. 6089.22 crore in 2016.

The bank aims at providing superior banking facilities right from the retail customers and the small establishments to the corporate houses. It has been the first one to come up with a fully computerized branch cum ATM facility.
